The Best Horse Memes of All Time

Admit it, scrolling through horse memes on Instagram and Pinterest is practically a hobby all to itself at this point.

We’ve selected the best horse memes of all time to help you win the DM battle you and your yard buddies have been in for the past 3 months. After all, some memes are too good not to share!

1. “All you have to do is sit on it!”

No matter how many times you hear it, being told that horse riding is easy, and all that you have to do is sit there doesn’t stop being annoying! After all, it couldn’t be further from the truth!

2. My horse is prettier than yours

Nothing beats turning up to a horse show with your prize pony, only to have your dressage score dented because one of the judges doesn’t like chestnuts! Worst still, the horse that went before you was a Christmas present from a billionaire hedge fund manager to his 17 year old daughter – you don’t stand a chance.

Although days like these can really drag things down, we’re all extremely grateful to even be able to ride a horse of our own. It just gets a little wearing sometimes! This is definitely one of our favourite horse memes.

3. “Mum, that plastic bag is going to attack us!”

This is one of the hardest hitting horse memes we’ve included. Who hasn’t been there?

You’re hacking along the same lane you have three times each week since buying your beloved horse, when all of a sudden your steed leaps into the air – almost booting you off in the process. Your mind flashes: whatever could be the problem? Is your horse injured? Then you realise. The problem takes the form of a plastic carrier bag.

4. The “experts” have arrived

Would your one-day event really count as a competition if someone you’ve never met before doesn’t tell you that you’re doing something wrong, and rapidly come up with a “better” alternative?

We’ve all been there. Of course, the best thing to do is politely refuse the help, but it’s not always that easy.

5. “Are those for me?”

Two-tier memory is something that all horse owners are familiar with; every horse forgets how to behave, but if you’re wearing the same blue coat you wore two weeks ago when you had treats stuffed into the pockets you can guarantee they’ll remember which pocket to search.

The only question is, are there still any treats left?

6. Could we have picked a more expensive hobby!?

As much as we love our maned friends, it comes at a cost! A cost that friends who stick to more “sensible” hobbies like running and cycling don’t appear to appreciate when they ask you out for brunch every Saturday morning… But of course, no matter how many rugs they tear, shoes they pull, or muddy they get they’re worth every penny.

7. “I hope you’re not in a hurry, Mum”

You’ve got a million-and-one things to do, so you’re in a rush to ride. You’ve got to the yard in record time only to find that your horse has practically entombed themself in mud – so much for a quick ride!

8. Talented until someone looks

You know your horse has it in them to do great things. In fact, when you’re alone together magic happens. As soon as someone’s watching, however, things quickly go awry.

The change in behavior isn’t even linear. If your mum comes along to see how you’re getting on, you might get a few bucks, but that’s it. Yet when your boyfriend makes his bi-annual appearance, or a fierce dressage judge is watching you hawk-eyed things really go downhill.

9. Everyone’s childhood dream

Whose love of horses didn’t start as a child? And unless you were very fortunate, who didn’t have to pester their parents to get them their first pony? To any young readers, don’t worry – you’ll make it happen some way; I got my first horse when I was 17. After getting a job at a local café I finally saved up enough – and I haven’t ever looked back!

10. Some horse memes are too true!

If you admit it to your non-horsey friends you’ll be thrown from your friendship group, but is there anything better than the smell of a (clean) horse?
